The Limelight: Guillory Jewelry
Hey ! Welcome to another edition of The Limelight, when I interview emerging designers or talent on their inspiration and journey to their industry. With my addiction for earrings, I could not help but to admire this brand's collection of earrings. Long, colorful and full of character, I had to reach out and find out whats the story behind Guillory Jewelry. Here is the interview with Anastasia K from Guillory Jewerly:
[MIKARA] With my true infatuation/obsession of earrings, I was allured into your Instagram with no hesitation. What made you decide to get into designing earring specifically? Are you a big earring wearer?
[Anastasia K.] In 2017 I fused my passion for fashion, design and unique jewelry into a business and launched the “GUILLORY Jewelry” brand. Creating something that you personally like and being able share it with people, who appreciate it, is very fulfilling, I am very grateful for this opportunity in my life.
I should say that you can find various jewelry pieces in Guillory collections: there are necklaces, bracelets, brooches and, indeed, earrings. I personally love earrings, you are right, that is why they have a special place in every collection. I see earrings as a tool to spice up your look, give it a new twist. Just by choosing different styles of earrings you can be elegant, chic or funky, depending on the occasion, outfit or simply your mood.
[MIKARA] What gets you in the zone of creating your one of a kind earrings?
] I am a very visual person, so things that I see inspire me (actually anything - a pattern, a ceiling somewhere in Paris, pieces of art in museums or a picture in Instagram). I monitor trends in fashion to be informed, but not to follow them or to rely on them. I create what I personally like and feel special about, that is what makes my designs different. I always loved fashion and had a knack for jewelry from a young age: when I was a kid I would bead my own accessories to wear exactly what I though was nice. And today women wearing my earrings also want to reveal something about their taste and themselves through accessories. I strive to create designs that become the staples of your wardrobe and jewelry collection, accessories that are meaningful and accessories that will instantly make you feel unique, different and will let you try things out and experiment with your look. Guillory Jewelry is a lot about “look and feel”.For me (as a girl and as a designer) it is important to be different and to be able to express yourself through the way you look, and earrings are one of the tools to do it. In 2017 I took the plunge into jewelry design by creating my own collection that built on Guillory’s signature style. Guillory is my personal way to take you to a world of effortless beauty and modern elegance, combining contemporary luxury with 70's glam-rock influences, which inspire me so much. Guillory is a mix of vintage romantic glamour and contemporary ethnic design. My experience as an artist translates into the use of colours and textures.Another important characteristic of Guillory earrings is that they are exclusive jewelry pieces. How do we achieve that? All items are handmade, with meticulous attention to detail and design, only using the finest materials to make sure the result is a truly exclusive luxury product.
[MIKARA] How would you define the women wearing your earrings in 3-5 words?
[Anastasia K.] Modern, creative, enthusiastic, different, stylish.
[MIKARA] If you could back track on something about your brand, what would it be?
[Anastasia K.] Honestly, I would have started it earlier.
[MIKARA] How did you come up with the name Guillory Jewelry as your brand name?
[Anastasia K.] Before the Guillory brand was launched, drawing and painting were my passion. When I was younger, maybe 11 or 12, I decided that a creative, artistic name was needed - a name that would express my personality and build a connection between it and my art work. So I came up with the name Guillory, a surname actually, which is composed of the elements meaning ‘will’, ‘desire’ & ‘power(ful)’, which resemble my creative ideas. Thus, when I started designing jewelry, there were no doubts about the name, simply because it was already part of my personality. So you can say that Guillory is my namesake brand ☺
[MIKARA] Outside of fashion, do you have any special talents?
[Anastasia K. ] I love drawing and painting, which are still my hobby and part of jewelry-designing process. I also love dancing.
[MIKARA] If you were not in the fashion industry, what do you think you would be doing?
[Anastasia K.] I had been doing brand marketing in corporate businesses for a few years before I started my own fashion brand, so probably I would have developed myself as a brand marketer (although it is still a big part of what I am doing now). It actually helps me now with running the business, because having a fashion brand requires not only creativity in your jewelry designs, but also embraces business aspects, which include a lot of strategic, analytical and administrative work.
[MIKARA] If you could do a joint collaboration with a brand (person or entity) who would it be?
[Anastasia K.] I admire many designers for their creativity, style and techniques. But if I would really get this chance, I would like to collaborate with Dries Van Noten, Haider Ackermann.
[MIKARA] Closing this interview out, where do you see your brand in 5 years? And would you ever venture into men's accessories?
[Anastasia K.] We are very thankful for the way the brand has been developing. I am very lucky to follow my passion and do exactly what I love; and now I am not alone - today there is a group of passionate and creative people in the Guillory team, giving the best of themselves to the brand and working every day on its development. Having your own business, even in fashion industry, is not as glamorous as it seems. It requires a lot of hard work, dedication and fortitude, but I hope that in 5 years Guillory will be loved worldwide by more and more people that are not indifferent to fashion and accessories. I hope our work inspires them and resonates with their fashion ideas on a large scale. As for men’s accessories…we’ll see!
